African Democracy & Governance Hub is guided by a clear mission, a long-term vision, and a citizen-centred democratic mandate rooted across the African continent.

Our Mission

To promote democratic governance, constitutional rule of law, civic engagement, and accountability across Africa through evidence-based advocacy, capacity building, and community partnerships — anchored in the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) and the AU Agenda 2063.

Our Vision

An Africa where every citizen — whether in Lagos or Nairobi, Dakar or Addis Ababa — lives under a democratic, transparent, and accountable government that upholds human rights, ensures equal participation, and delivers dignified public services for all.

UN Sustainable Development Goals We Address

ADGH's work is directly aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Our primary focus is SDG 16, with our programmes contributing across four goals in total.

Primary

Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions

Our primary mandate. ADGH works to build transparent, accountable, and inclusive institutions across Africa — from community governance to national parliaments and continental bodies.

10

Reduced Inequalities

We deliberately work in Africa's marginalised and underserved regions to ensure that democracy reaches citizens who are too often left behind by formal governance structures.

5

Gender Equality

We champion women's political participation and gender-inclusive governance across all levels of African government, aligned with the AU's gender parity commitments.

4

Quality Education

Through civic education programmes in schools and communities, we build the democratic literacy that sustains a healthy and participatory citizenry.

Our Partners

African Democracy & Governance Hub collaborates with African and international institutions and civil society organisations committed to democracy, accountability, and civic participation.
